SUMMARY:Celebrate Dominican Heritage Month - FREE EVENT!
DESCRIPTION:The 27th of February 1844 is the date when Dominican’s obtained their Independence and was finally called the Dominican Republic. \nAfter many years of being a Spanish colony and then being occupied by our fellow Haitians\, it was in 1844 when our Founding Father\, Juan Pablo Duarte\, created a secret society named “La Trinitaria” in which\, along with other leaders Francisco Del Rosario Sánchez and Matías Ramón Mella he fought against the Haitian repression to gain Independence. \nThis year Dominican Heritage Month Celebration is dedicated to Dominican Americans who have made positive contributions within the community. The event will be held on Wednesday\, February 28th\, 2018 at La Boom\, located at 56-15 Northern Blvd\, Woodside\, NY 11377. \nThere will be traditional Dominican food buffet-style serving and Artwork display from Dominican artist starting at 6:00pm and ending at 7:00pm. We will then begin our program continuing until 10pm which include but not limited to live music\, dance\, VIP’s Guess and much more. \n  \nABOUT THE DOMINICO-AMERICAN SOCIETY OF QUEENS\nThe Dominico-American Society of Queens (DASQ) is a community-based\, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1993 to improve the quality of life in the NYC community. \nOriginally founded to serve the needs of residents living in Queens County\, DASQ has evolved over two decades to serve the needs of families located throughout New York City. It has since become a comprehensive and multi-service organization. \nServices provided are Adult Literacy and Job training\, Legal and Immigration Services\, Citizenship Classes and Youth Development as well as Referrals. \nWe serve thousands of individuals and families each year.  Those served include recipients of public assistance\, the unemployed and underemployed\, dislocated workers\, senior citizens\, at-risk youth and school drop-outs\, and the physically disabled. Immigrants from 140 different countries\, speaking 138 different languages\, come to the U.S. in search of the American Dream. We try to help those failing or struggling to achieve that dream. \nDominico-American Society of Queens
